Ametrine Sphere High Grade 41.9mm / 101g
Bring inspiration into motion with ametrine—a meeting of violet twilight and golden morning light. Its contrasting colors evoke a graceful balance between quiet wisdom and confident possibility. Place it in your sacred space, keep it beside a creative project, or carry it as a reminder to honor your intuition and give your intentions room to grow. Ametrine invites you to dream with clarity and move forward with purpose.
Mineralogically, ametrine is a bicolored variety of quartz, composed of silicon dioxide, or SiO₂, with purple amethyst and yellow-to-orange citrine coloration within the same crystal. It is one continuous quartz crystal with different color zones, rather than separate stones joined together. Like other crystalline quartz varieties, it has a Mohs hardness of 7 and a glassy luster. Its name combines “amethyst” and “citrine,” directly reflecting its distinctive appearance.
Ametrine’s contrasting regions reflect differences in iron-related coloration within the quartz, with color zoning associated with particular crystal growth sectors. Natural specimens may show sharply divided areas or more subtle transitions, and cutters can emphasize the separation or create optical mixtures through facet placement. Bolivia’s Anahí mine is its best-known commercial source, producing ametrine alongside amethyst and citrine. The distribution of color gives each specimen its own visual character.
What makes ametrine special is the presence of two contrasting quartz colors in a single crystal. Compared with predominantly purple amethyst or golden citrine, it offers a more varied appearance and a symbolic emphasis on bringing complementary qualities together. Multicolored fluorite and tourmaline can also display striking color zones, but ametrine has the recognizable pairing of violet and gold within the quartz family. Its appeal lies as much in that natural contrast as in its metaphysical symbolism: quiet reflection and bright determination sharing the same stone.
Ametrine is mined primarily in eastern Bolivia, especially at the Anahí mine in Santa Cruz Department, near the Brazilian border. This locality is famous for quartz crystals that naturally contain both purple amethyst and golden-yellow regions, and it supplies most ametrine found in the gemstone market. Small occurrences have been documented elsewhere, including Brazil, but Bolivia remains the principal commercial source of this distinctive bicolored quartz.
Ametrine represents the harmony of intuition and action, combining the associations of purple amethyst with those of golden citrine. Amethyst is commonly linked with spiritual awareness, inner peace, and reflection, while citrine symbolizes confidence, creativity, and abundance. Together, these colors make ametrine a symbol of balanced growth: listening to your inner guidance while finding the courage to act upon it.
Ametrine is often associated with bringing clarity to conflicting feelings, balancing contemplation with motivation, and turning inspiration into purposeful effort. In chakra practices, its purple regions are connected with the third eye and crown, while its yellow regions are associated with the solar plexus, symbolizing a connection between spiritual insight and personal will. It can serve as a meaningful focus for meditation, intention setting, or creative work—particularly when someone wants to move from imagining possibilities toward taking practical steps.
Clean ametrine gently with lukewarm water, a little mild soap, and a soft cloth or soft-bristled brush, then rinse and dry thoroughly. Although its quartz composition gives it a Mohs hardness of 7, it can still chip or fracture, so protect it from drops, hard impacts, and sudden temperature changes. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight and excessive heat, which may alter or fade its colors, as well as harsh chemicals and steam cleaners; ultrasonic cleaning is best avoided when fractures or inclusions are present. Store it separately from other stones in a soft pouch or lined compartment. For a symbolic cleansing ritual, choose sound or a brief placement in moonlight instead of sunlight or saltwater soaking.
