Mozarkite Tumbled Stone 1.25"-1.5"
from Missouri
Mozarkite is a beautiful, colorful variety of chert, which is a dense, microcrystalline form of quartz (silicon dioxide, SiO₂). It is Missouri’s official state rock, and its name is a blend of Missouri and Ozark—where it is commonly found.
Type: Silicified rock (a type of chert)
Chemical composition: SiO₂ (silicon dioxide)
Hardness: ~7 on the Mohs scale (very durable)
Luster: Waxy to vitreous
Fracture: Conchoidal (smooth, curved breaks)
Transparency: Opaque to slightly translucent in thin slices
Typically shows swirling patterns of pink, purple, red, green, gray, tan, or white
Color variations come from iron, manganese, and other mineral impurities
Often resembles jasper or agate, and takes a very high polish, making it ideal for lapidary work
Exclusively found in Missouri, especially in the Ozark Plateau
Particularly common in Benton, Hickory, and Dallas Counties
Said to promote inner strength and grounding
Believed to help with emotional stability and mental clarity
Often used in earth-based rituals for connecting with natural energy
Mineral Care:
Mozarkite is a durable stone—a variety of chert (microcrystalline quartz)—with a Mohs hardness of about 7, meaning it’s tough enough for everyday handling and jewelry use. However, like all gemstones, it benefits from proper care to preserve its polish and beauty over time.
Use lukewarm water and mild soap.
Gently scrub with a soft cloth or soft toothbrush.
Rinse thoroughly and dry completely with a soft, lint-free cloth.
Avoid soaking for long periods if the stone has visible fractures.
