Published in 1969, T: The New Tarot for the Aquarian Age was born out of the late-1960s spiritual underground, channeled and created by artist and mystic John Starr Cooke alongside medium and astrologer Rosalind Sharpe. Rather than following traditional esoteric layouts like the Rider-Waite-Smith or Marseille systems, the deck was famously claimed to be "channeled" from a non-human entity or collective consciousness known as "The One" through automatic writing and Ouija sessions held in Carmel and Sausalito, California. Following each session, Cooke painted the corresponding Major Arcana card. It stands as a fascinating artifact of California counterculture, completely throwing out old archetypes in favor of a cosmic redesign fit for the dawning Age of Aquarius.
This striking tarot deck, created during the Aquarian Age movement of the 1970s, reflects a time of spiritual exploration, symbolism, and artistic experimentation.
The imagery blends classical tarot archetypes with a more modern, mystical, and symbolic language, featuring bold colors, surreal compositions, and esoteric themes typical of the era.
