Obsidian is a shiny and hard naturally occurring volcanic glass and ingenous rock, formed when volcanic lava is excreted from a volcano rapidly cools. Though not technically a mineral since it has no crystalline properties, it is sometimes is classed as a mineraloid by association, and is often marketed in the same way minerals are. Obsidian has a very long history with humans, having been carved into tools and weapons by us since the prehistoric era over a million years ago. Today it is commonly used as an aesthetically pleasing gemstone, but still has pragmatic applications in the creation of extremely sharp blades.

Obsidian’s energy creates a protective shield that deflects negativity and repels attempts of others to assert power over us. It helps us to uncover our unique skills and hidden talents whilst releasing blockages to our spiritual and personal growth. Obsidian is popular for jewelry use, it's fairly tough but also brittle, so can break upon a hard impact, so care must be taken. It's easy to clean in water when in a polished, but it is not suggested for use im gem waters/elixirs or consumption.
